How to get rid of old appliances
Appliance removal involves preparation, access and a suitable disposal route. Retailer haul-away, local collection and reuse each have arrangements to confirm. JunkGurus handles the agreed lifting and hauling of eligible appliances that are already disconnected and unmounted.
Arrange any needed disconnection separately before pickup; removal does not include hookup, installation or disconnection service. Check availability for your address and confirm item eligibility and access before booking.
Before arranging removal, confirm who will disconnect it, who will carry it out, and where it can be taken. Refrigerators and freezers need appropriate handling because they contain refrigerant.

Retailer haul-away
Ask about removal when arranging your new appliance delivery. Check the charge, which items qualify, whether the old appliance must be disconnected first, and whether stairs or built-in units affect the service.
Local collection or recycling
Contact your city, county, waste provider or appliance recycler. Confirm the appliance type, appointment requirements, fees and pickup or drop-off instructions. For refrigerators and freezers, your electric utility may also have an eligible-appliance program; check current availability and conditions directly.
Donation or another owner
For a usable appliance, ask a prospective recipient whether they accept that model and condition. Describe any fault honestly and agree on who handles removal. Confirm acceptance before making a trip or arranging transport.

Prepare the details before pickup
- Identify the appliance, its size and any separate pieces.
- Say whether it is freestanding, built in or still connected.
- Show its location and describe stairs, elevators, narrow doors and parking access.
- Confirm who will disconnect it and when that will be completed.
- Remove personal items and contents when safe to do so, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Keep the access route clear without attempting to move a heavy appliance yourself.
JunkGurus requires appliances to be disconnected and unmounted before removal; plumbing or hardwired electrical disconnection is not included. Any single item over 500 pounds is excluded. Review What We Take for the current requirements and exclusions.
For gas, hardwired electrical or plumbing connections, arrange appropriate professional help. Do not assume that a removal booking includes disconnection or installation work. If an appliance is leaking, damaged or has another safety concern, disclose it before arranging a standard pickup.
Refrigerators and freezers need a disposal plan
Keep refrigerant lines intact. Ask the collection service or receiving facility about its acceptance and preparation requirements. The EPA explains appliance disposal options and proper refrigerant handling. Use that guidance when choosing a disposal route, and confirm the local requirements before collection.
How much does appliance removal cost?
The estimate depends on the items and the job conditions. Show every appliance you want removed and explain its location and access. Review the pricing and pickup options for your JunkGurus request before scheduling.
When comparing services, check whether the quoted amount includes the work you need. A curbside collection and a pickup from an upstairs room can involve different work.
Planning a larger cleanup?
