Local disposal guide
Charlotte junk removal and disposal guide
Charlotte has different removal routes for a household sofa, an apartment bulk area and business furniture. Check which service covers your property before moving items outside.
JunkGurus serves selected ZIP codes in Charlotte and surrounding areas. Check your pickup address in the app for current availability.
Schedule City bulky pickup before setting items out
Charlotte’s residential bulky service is for customers who receive City garbage collection. Schedule through 311, 704-336-7600, the CLT+ app or the City’s online request. Unscheduled items will not be collected.
Under the City’s collection guidelines, put items out by 6 a.m. on the assigned day, no earlier than the previous day, with three feet between items. Check the linked eligibility list for item-specific preparation.
CLT+ handles City service requests. The JunkGurus app is a separate booking option.
Apartment collection has its own arrangements
Charlotte provides bulky collection to qualifying multifamily properties, including apartments, condos and townhomes. Follow the multifamily instructions: schedule with 311, identify the property and items, then use the designated bulky area without blocking dumpster or compactor access. Do not put bulky furniture inside those containers.
Confirm the arrangement with the property manager first. Charlotte’s small-business garbage program does not include bulky-item collection, so business furniture needs a separate plan.
Check reuse before disposal
Habitat Charlotte Region ReStores accept qualifying furniture, including sofas, chairs and tables. Their donation guidelines exclude mattresses, box springs and sleeper sofas, and items that are broken or stained. Donation pickup options carry a fee. Confirm acceptance and any pickup charge before arranging transport.
For more ways to handle a sofa, see How to get rid of a couch. Replacing a bed? Our mattress-removal guide covers the mattress, box spring and frame.
Self-hauling: choose a full-service facility
Mecklenburg County’s full-service recycling centers accept listed bulky furniture; smaller staffed and self-service recycling sites do not handle the same materials. Mecklenburg County residents with the required blue entry sticker can qualify for no-charge Group 1 disposal of a single bulky item, such as one sofa. Multiple-item loads, larger loads and commercial deliveries follow separate fee categories; confirm your load’s category and current fees before visiting.
Before loading, check the specific facility’s item limits, vehicle or trailer restrictions, proof-of-residency requirements and payment instructions. Separate different waste streams and review current notices. A nearby recycling drop-off is not automatically a furniture-disposal site.
Or use JunkGurus
JunkGurus helps with residential removal and cleanouts and commercial property management removal where service is available. Show every item and describe stairs, loading access and pickup locations in your request.
Each individual item must weigh 500 pounds or less and meet our pickup guidelines. Items with bed bugs, fleas or lice require advance management approval and a special estimate. Contact JunkGurus before scheduling; do not book through the app before approval. Severe infestation, unsafe decomposition or leaking contamination needs safety review.
Our crew handles the agreed lifting, loading and hauling, so you do not need to arrange your own disposal trip.
Review the pricing shown for your request and available times, then schedule. For a one-time pickup, book in the app. For recurring property service, contact JunkGurus to confirm the arrangement. Start in the JunkGurus app.
Property teams comparing staff hauling with a removal service can use our in-house versus outsourced trash-outs guide to account for labor, equipment and disposal.
