Greensboro junk removal and disposal guide
Getting rid of furniture in Greensboro starts with two checks: who collects waste at your property, and whether the item meets that service’s rules. Residential curbside pickup, an apartment community’s bulk program and a self-haul trip have different requirements.
JunkGurus serves selected ZIP codes in Greensboro and surrounding areas. Check your address in the app for current pickup options.
Check the City’s curbside limits first
For customers on Greensboro’s residential bulk route, collection falls on recycling day every other week. Put eligible items at the curb by 7 a.m. Use the City’s address-based schedule to check your day and holiday changes.
The City’s bulk-item rules list furniture, mattresses, bed frames and box springs, but also state that crews cannot collect items over 50 pounds. Check a heavy sofa or mattress with the City before moving it out. Extra bags of household trash do not qualify as bulk items.
Appliances require a separate pickup appointment. TVs and computers follow the City’s electronics-disposal route. Call 336-373-2489 if you need help confirming the right service.
Apartment communities have a separate option
Greensboro’s business and multifamily service guide says communities with a City trash-dumpster service agreement receive weekly bulk collection at no additional cost. That arrangement depends on the property’s agreement; it is not automatic for every apartment address.
Ask your manager who handles bulky items, where to place them and which day applies. Property staff arranging another pickup can use our apartment bulk-pickup planning checklist.
Hauling it yourself? Prepare for unloading
The Greensboro Transfer Station at 6310 Burnt Poplar Road accepts couches, mattresses and other listed waste generated within its permitted service counties, including Guilford. Check the current rules for your load’s origin, material and vehicle before leaving.
Everyone unloading must wear high-visibility safety clothing and closed-toe shoes or boots. Allow at least 30 minutes before closing to unload. Review vehicle-based fees and cash-deposit requirements beforehand, especially if you are using a rental box truck.
Choose the right route for your furniture
If the item is usable, confirm a buyer or donation recipient before arranging transport. Our couch-removal guide compares reuse and pickup options. For bedding, the mattress-removal guide explains how to include box springs and bed frames in the plan.
Request a JunkGurus pickup
For a single item or a larger residential cleanout, show everything that needs to go in the app. Include stairs, floor level and access details, then review the pricing shown for your request and available pickup times.
Each individual item must weigh 500 pounds or less and meet our pickup guidelines. Items with bed bugs, fleas or lice require advance management approval and a special estimate. Contact JunkGurus before scheduling; do not book through the app before approval. Severe infestation, unsafe decomposition or leaking contamination needs safety review.
Our crew handles the agreed lifting, loading and hauling, so you do not need to arrange your own disposal trip.

For a shared bulk area or several move-outs, use our apartment bulk-pickup planning checklist to organize item counts, staging and property access.
